Distance Learning College

I am from Kansas where crew is not super popular. I am a junior (to be senior next year) and was looking into training for a crew team so I could row in college. Im basically looking for a good starting workout run to do daily because I have a friend of mine who is willing to help me train. I understand using an erg is an important part of learning rowing technique and training but I also need something for every day when I can’t always drive to the gym to use an erg. Also, when I run, should I focus on pushing myself extremely hard every day with shorter distances or focus on maintaining a mild to quick pace for a much longer distance’ Thanks!
